florida-golfFlorida Golf Courses

Sunshine, beaches, and Florida golf courses are responsible for the brisk tourism of the Sunshine State that combined with citrus production have been the backbone of the state’s economy for many years.   While historians date the origin of golf to the era of Roman Empire, Florida has been the modern day Golf Empire of the Unites States.  Sunny days and warm winter weather bring many golfers to the state throughout the year to explore the magnificent golf courses of Florida.  Find your course and book a tee time. With over 1,480 courses in Florida, Naples makes the top of the list when it comes to the number of the golf courses in the State of Florida.

Below are the top Florida Cities in that category:

1. Fort Meyers Golf Course
2. Orlando Golf Courses
3. Boca Raton Golf Courses
4. Jacksonville Golf Courses
5. Bradenton Golf Courses
6. Sarasota Golf Courses
7. Ocala Golf Courses
8. Vero Beach Golf Courses
9. West Palm Beach Golf Courses

Interestingly Miami or Doral, the home to Blue Munster in Doral Country Club, did not make the top ten list but remains as the one of the most intriguing destinations for serious golfers from all over the world.

Fun Activities for the Kids At the Manatee Center

Manatee-Center

When looking for things to do in Port St Lucie be sure to visit the Manatee Center.  Whether the kids are on vacation, spring break or off for the holiday they will enjoy the Manatee Center in Fort Pierce.  The staff is very knowledgeable in marine life and reptiles.  There are various fish tanks, reptiles and information stations.  Outside you can walk out on the docks and there is an observation deck.  There are some nice Manatee statues to take pictures of the kids with a nice gift shop inside.  The cost is very minimal and even if you do not spot a Manatee the center is well worth visiting.  Even though we did not see a Manatee the day we went we still caught a glimpse of some marine life off the docks.  With such beautiful weather, it was a joy just to see the water and blue skies.  Nearby is a tourist center to pick up some brochures for other activities on the Treasure Coast.

The center is located west of the Atlantic and overlooks the Indian River Lagoon known for the historical resting spot for the Manatees.  Besides the Manatees one might see a variety of wildlife including Dolphins, Brown Pelicans, Terns and a stroll through the butterfly center with beautiful flowers attracting the butterflies.

Heathcote GardensHeathcote Gardens Bonsai Trees

Over the years we have visited the various tropical gardens in Florida.  Heathcote Gardens had a pleasant surprise awaiting us with their beautiful collection of Bonsai Trees.  According to the USDA Plant Hardiness Map, Florida is in Zone 10A making it the perfect climate for Mediterranean and tropical plants.  The Heathcote Gardens are sectioned off in a variety of different gardens including:

  1. James J Smith Bonsai Gallery – Features over 100 Bonsai Trees on pedestals including my favorite, the Bougainvillea Bonsai
  2. Japanese Garden – This garden is serene and elegant with its different plant forms and shapes strategically placed to draw the eye to each change in plant design
  3. Reflection Garden – A beautiful spot to sit and meditate.  The garden cat likes to lounge here too!
  4. Herb Garden – Must start growing a garden like this one.  Fresh herbs in the garden make everything taste better in the kitchen.
  5. Tropical Rainforest Garden – Lush green landscape with a splash of tropical blossoms.
  6. Native Florida Plant Garden – Plants that can take the Florida heat and resilient to our climate.
  7. Palm & Cycad Walk – There are many varieties of Palm Trees along the path to explore which tree to plant in your yard.  Who knew there were so many species of palm trees?

Plan Your Port St Lucie Tropical Garden

The plants in the Heathcote tropical gardens have been labeled making it easier to identify the different plants.  This will help you to plan your Florida garden and find the plants that you like along with how to arrange them in your garden.  Landscaping can be overwhelming for any homeowner.  Visiting a garden helps you to learn and identify plants and the type of care they may need.  If you are unsure where to start then try a smaller area in your yard.  Once the plants are growing move on to another section.  Remember Heathcote did not get built in a day and with good plant knowledge and landscaping planning you can turn your backyard into a tropical oasis.  Hopefully, more people will plant trees and other tropical plants to Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful.  Remember having shade around the house cools down the temperature inside and out to enjoy Florida outdoor living in your backyard.  So get started planning and planting your Tropical Backyard by visiting Heathcote today!

Every year many retirees and people who’re still in the workforce are relocating to Port St Lucie, which has resulted in a staggering increase of near 215% in the population growth since the year 2000 alone. There are many reasons for the popularity of Port St Lucie.  The city’s unique lifestyle that along with the close proximity to the Treasure Coast beaches are only the start.  The incredible real estate bargains resulted in a lower cost of living in a city that also has been ranked as the safest city in Florida.  The winning combination of low cost, the safety, and great lifestyle have made Port St Lucie and Treasure Coast more popular than ever with people who are relocating for reasons ranging from retirement to job relocation.

The State of Florida has been the number one destination for many retirees relocating from the northern states for the past decades.  There is an average  of 1,000 people moving to Florida every day and for good reasons too.  We are a tax friendly state and the home to millions of migrants from the Northern States, Canada. Latin America and Europe.  The tropical climate and sandy beaches are perhaps the most important factors in enticing our new residents to call Florida their new home.  They could swim in the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico in December while their neighbors back home are battling the snow. The beautiful weather in the winter alone is worth the price of their second home.

There is also no state taxes and  tax structure in Florida are divided mainly to Sales Tax, Tangible Tax and Intangible Tax and corporate income tax.  The sales  and use tax is usually around 6% with exemption on food, medicine, and professional services.  For more details on property taxes as well as any other questions you could call Department of Revenue at (904) 487-4215 or their checkout their website www.myflorida.com/dor

Weatherbee Nursery Fort Pierce, FL

Weatherbee Nursery Fort Pierce, FL

Weatherbee Nursery Fort Pierce FloridaWeatherbee Nursery in Fort Pierce a Little Corner of Heaven

Last week we saw an ad for Weatherbee Nursery in a local newspaper in Fort Pierce and since we were in the neighborhood we decided to pay a quick visit.  The nursery is located on a street by the same name and we found it with no problem.  From the front parking lot to the entrance first thing you’ll notice is how clean, neat and organized this beautiful garden center is maintained.  As soon as we stepped into the garden the tranquil waterfall located in a shady area surrounded by flowers was the best welcome that was only matched with the most helpful staff that serviced all our needs.

The gentleman who seemed to be the owner or manager had the best advice in how to ship plants that my wife was planning to send to her mom in upstate NY and before we knew we had spent an hour strolling around enjoying the garden.

We ended up buying a bunch of herbs and tomato plants to liven up our cooking with fresh ingredients.  The fresh mint, chocolate, and orange mint make a delightful aromatic sweetener in cold tea especially in the hot summer Florida tropics makes this a very refreshing drink.  Support your local Small Businesses today!
